How I work
Counselling is a collaborative process.
Rather than giving you a list of instructions or telling you how you should live your life, I aim to understand your experience from your perspective.
We’ll explore what’s happening for you now, while also considering how previous experiences and relationships may have shaped the way you see yourself and others.
My approach is grounded in person-centred and relational counselling, alongside psychodynamic thinking.
The approaches I draw on
Person-centred
You are the expert on your own life. My role is to understand your experience from your perspective, with warmth and without judgement.
Relational
The relationship between us is part of the work: a place to notice, safely and honestly, how you relate to others and to yourself.
Psychodynamic
Considering how earlier experiences and relationships may have shaped the way you see yourself and others today.
For me, the therapeutic relationship itself can become an important part of the work.
Sometimes the things we struggle with in everyday relationships can begin to appear within the counselling relationship too. Exploring these experiences safely and honestly can help us understand ourselves in new ways.
